6-day tour to Minnesota, North and South Dakota with Norsk Høstfest

Join us for a fantastic tour of the Dakotas! The main theme for this tour will be our Norwegian heritage, and one of the highlights of the tour is the biggest Scandinavian festival in the USA, Norsk Høstfest, in Minot, ND.

Other highlights include:

TBD	Depart Southern Wisconsin. Pick up locations TBD. Possible pick-up route: 7:45 Milwaukee, 8:30 Elkhorn / Delavan, 9:15 Janesville. We will adjust pick up route to accommodate as many as possible.
10:00 AM	Depart Madison
1:00 PM	Lunch at Norske Nook, Osseo, WI. This is a famous Norwegian Restaurant, well worth a visit. Famous for their award winning pies!
3:00 PM	Depart Osseo
5:00 PM	Arrive Minneapolis. Dinner with Eivind Heiberg, CEO of Sons of Norway (Depending on his schedule).

Tuesday, September 25                   CB, D

TBD	Breakfast at the hotel
8:30 AM	Depart. Visit Ingebretsen’s Scandinavian store. Ingebretsen’s has been serving the Scandinavian community in the Twin Cities area since 1921, and is one of the oldest Scandinavian stores in the country. It is both a Deli and a Gift Store, so here you will find both gifts and food from Scandinavia!
12:00 AM	Arrive Alexandria, MN. As we get into town, we will stop and look at Big Ole, “The World’s Biggest Viking”. We will then visit the Kensington Runestone Museum. This stone (if it is authentic) proves that the Vikings where in Minnesota long before Columbus. Lunch on your own.
2:00 PM	Depart
4:00 PM	Arrive Fargo, ND. Check into the hotel, and maybe stretch a little bit before dinner
5:30 PM	Depart
6:00 PM	Dinner at Kringen Lodge of Sons of Norway. This is one of the most active Sons of Norway lodges in the country, and we will join the members for their weekly dinner and social gathering.
TBD	Return to the hotel

Wednesday,  Sept. 26                       B, D

9:00 AM	Depart
9:30 AM	Arrive Hjemkomst (Homecoming) Museum in Moorhead, MN. This museum features the modern Viking ship “Hjemkomst” (Homecoming), which was built in Minnesota and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to Bergen, Norway. The museum also has an exact copy of Hopperstad Stave Church, in Sogn, Norway.
11:00 AM	Depart
1:00 PM	Lunch on your own in Jamestown, ND.
2:30 PM	Visit the National Buffalo Museum with the world’s biggest buffalo, and the Frontier Village in Jamestown.
3:30 PM	Depart
5:30 PM	Arrive Bismarck, ND. Dinner at the hotel.

Thursday, Sept. 27                           B,D

8:00 AM	Depart
10:00 AM	Arrive Scandinavian Heritage Park, Minot, ND. See the statue of Sondre Norheim, “The Father of Modern Skiing”. He was born in Norway, and was well known as a fantastic skier. He emigrated to America, and settled near Minot, ND.
11:00 AM	Norsk Høstfest. This is the biggest Scandinavian festival in the USA, with more than 100,000 visitors throughout the 6-day long event. Everything is indoors, and there are many halls filled with exhibitors selling everything you can think of that has Nordic or Scandinavian flair to it. There are many stages with ongoing entertainment all day long. The restaurant “En To Tre” is run by some of the best chefs in Norway, and offer some of the best cuisine in Norway. And of course you can buy lutefisk and meatball dinner....

6:15 PM	Dinner at Royal Fork buffet restaurant in Minot.
7:30 PM	Depart
9:30 PM	Arrive our hotel in Bismarck

Friday, Sept. 28                                B, D

8:00 AM	Check out and depart
	We will follow the Lewis and Clark-route, the opposite direction. We will drive through Pierre, the capitol of Soth Dakota.
TDB	Rest stop and lunch stop en route
3:30 PM	Arrive Corn Palace. The Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD, is a popular tourist attraction, with more than 500.000 visitors every year. From August to November each year, the palace is decorated with murals made of corn! We will have a guided tour of the palace. Group dinner at or nearby the Corn Palace.
6:00 PM	Depart
7:00 PM	Arrive Sioux Falls, SD.

Saturday, Sept. 29                            B, L

10:30 AM	Visit the SPAM-Museum in Austin, MN. Hormel Foods SPAM product is derived from SPiced Ham. A Monty Python sketch, first televised in 1970, shows a group of Vikings in a restaurant in England is singing “SPAM, lovely SPAM, wonderful SPAM” so loud that they interrupt everything else. This is the origin of the modern use of the word “spam”, a term for unwanted and junk emails.    Lunch.
